Julie Nelson has been in the economic and business development arena for 20 years. Previously with Greater Mankato Economic Development Corporation, she led business support and retention activities, compiled community proposals for expanding/relocating companies and site selectors, coordinated business and executive education programs, and managed InterCity Leadership trips that took delegations of community leaders to other innovative U.S. cities to explore best practices.
Julie is a certified Business Retention & Expansion Consultant, and she has completed advanced training in economic development finance from the National Development Council. She currently serves on the President’s Commission on the Status of Women at Minnesota State University, South Central College Small Business Advisory Committee, Region Nine Community and Economic Development Planning Committee, and South Central WorkForce Council. Julie is a member of Greater Mankato Rotary Club and Economic Development Association of Minnesota (EDAM).
Julie was named 2014 State Star by the Minnesota SBDC Network, which recognizes a top performer who makes significant contributions to their state, demonstrates exceptional performance, and embodies a strong commitment to small businesses. She is the recipient of the 2016 Outstanding Alumni Award from South Central College, and a 2017 Progress Minnesota award from Finance and Commerce.
